Narrative Statement

2010

My abstract drawings, while intimately linked to elements of nature, have other associative meanings. I use line and color as vehicles for personal expression, directed by a desire for communication. In all of my work both the intimacy of touch and energetic motion are essential components.

The drawings are direct, gestural and dense: the color is subtly balanced and particular. Erasures are integral parts and what is left blank is as essential as what is drawn.

In this most recent work I am exploring both observed and imagined occurrences in nature. Like processes in nature, the drawings are made, changed, erased and remade.

Drawing is the way I write my thoughts.
